Is Chicken Breast Katsu a healthy meal for people trying to lose weight?

Chicken katsu is a Japanese cuisine loved by all and is also called the panko chicken or sometimes the tori chicken.  It is popular for its simplicity and with the use of very few ingredients.

The dish originated in japan with the original dish being made only with chicken breast strips coated in flour, beaten egg, and panko or breadcrumbs before being fried until crispy.  Optionally served with a dark thick sauce called tonkatsu. Its crunchy, light, and crispy breading covers the succulent interior of the chicken breast.

The recipe below is for Chicken Breast Katsu - without sauce - and it will undoubtedly taste delicious.

Ingredients

  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - pounded to 1/2 inch thickness

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs

  • 1 cup oil for frying, or as needed

Instruction for cooking

  • Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Separately place the flour, egg, and panko crumbs in shallow bowls. Coat the chicken breasts in flour, brushing off any excess. Dip them into the egg, then into the panko crumbs, coating both sides well.

  • In a large skillet, heat 1/4 inch of oil over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken in the heated oil for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

  • You can have this with white rice and tonkatsu sauce

People who are watching their weight should be cautious when eating this wonderful meal because it is breaded and has additional calories. Moderation in eating and a regular exercise plan, on the other hand, can be beneficial.
